Dear Governor Newsom,
Life offers no guarantees, but in the United States, we are promised the pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness. Of course, we Californians can also count on two certainties: death and taxes!
In your role as Governor, you have demonstrated a keen awareness of California’s challenges and opportunities. However, I urge you to elevate your leadership by setting aside any lingering ill will toward former President Donald Trump. Though personal history—such as Donald Trump Jr.’s relationship with your ex-wife, Kimberly Guilfoyle—might complicate things, I implore you to focus on collaboration for the benefit of Californians and Americans alike. Fiscal transparency, accountability, and bipartisan cooperation can unite us in addressing the pressing issues of our time.
As a longtime advocate for fiscal honesty, I propose a bold yet practical reform: daily online publication of California’s financial data—state revenue and expenditures—as a way to enhance transparency, reduce waste, and restore trust in government. This “Post the Finances” initiative would empower citizens to perform a real-time audit of how taxpayer dollars are being spent.
During your tenure, you’ve taken commendable steps toward accountability and innovation. However, actions like eliminating unnecessary state cell phones and consolidating offices are just the beginning. True fiscal reform requires systemic change. Posting daily financial records online would set a new gold standard for governmental openness and create a firewall against fraud, waste, and corruption.
This initiative aligns with your administration’s declared intention to cut waste and redundancies. It is a commonsense, nonpartisan reform that resonates with Californians. Following the Bell, California scandal, public demand for transparency has only intensified. The people deserve to see how their money is being managed.
Governor Newsom, this reform cannot wait. Californians are struggling under economic pressures, and many feel disillusioned with their government. By supporting this initiative, you can demonstrate that you are not just a leader for one side of the aisle, but for all Californians. This effort would provide a concrete step toward bridging divides and proving that fiscal accountability transcends politics.
I call upon you to publicly endorse the “Post the Finances” initiative and champion it in your administration. This would not only fulfill your commitment to transparency but also leave a lasting legacy of trust and integrity in California’s governance.
Will you take the next step and declare your support for this transformative initiative? I would welcome the opportunity to meet with you and discuss this proposal in more detail. Together, we can lead California toward a future defined by honesty, fairness, and progress.
Respectfully,
Steve Mozena
